Question for the readers of F. Scott Fitzgerald?

I just read the two short stories "The Sensible Thing" and "Love in the Night" and they seem to have two opposing messages. The Sensible Thing seems to communicate the idea that an old love cannot be recaptured again. But Love in the Night Seems to say that the opposite is true. Does anybody else notice this, or am I missing something?
