Why does Jesus get more credit than actual people?

Jesus' death and resurrection set us free from the chains of death and darkness. I am sure that Martin Luther King Jr. would agree with me in this. Gandhi on the other hand would not want to be worshiped only emulated. If he were to aspire to more he could not ascend.
