Sound not working on windows 7?

i have an acer asprire and my sound isnt working for some reason and it hasnt been for a few days. i had to restart it for an itunes download and the only sound it'll make is that weird sound skype makes when its signing in. any help? P.S. ive looked under "speakers" and everythings up to 100% and not on mute.
