Why is there a greater number of gametes produced in the testes compared to the ovaries during meiosis?

u know that during ual reproduction lots of sperm cells which are male gametes flow from the male to the female reproductive organ. many of them die before they reach the ovary. only one ovary is needed every once n then but many sperm cells are needed in order to make sure that at least one will be fertilised during reproduction
